THE WORKSHOP
The way the real door Monoscene works is simple— when you leave this scene, you leave the room. No listening from the backline, no watching from the sidelines, we’re flying blind.
It’s a form that rewards big swings and hard justifications. Let’s find out what happens when we leap before we look.
Prerequisites: This class is best for intermediate to advanced improvisers. You should be comfortable sustaining characters and scenes over a longer period of time.
About the leader: Trumane Alston is a Brooklyn native who spent half his 20s performing improv and sketch at UCB, the Magnet, and countless bars and basements across New York City. He spent the other half of his 20s in Chicago improvising regularly at The Saturday Show at Logan Square Improv and Baby Wants Candy.
He studied acting at Black Box Acting and starred in the Goodman Theatre's 2025 production of Fat Ham. (He won't stop talking about it!) You can currently catch him playing himself as one half of the aptly named duo Chris Gethard and Trumane Alston.

Monkey Barrel Comedy has been ‘Scotland’s Best Comedy Venue’ since 2020 (Chortle Awards) and was described by The List as “a year-round Edinburgh institution”. It has over 500 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor, making it one of the city’s top-rated year-round attractions.

Monkey Barrel Comedy is situated in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. Our rooms are located on opposite sides of the street at the top end of Blair Street, just off the Royal Mile. Our venues can be easily accessed by bus or taxi from South Bridge or by foot from the Cowgate or the High Street.

As with many venues in the historic Old Town, some of our spaces have accessibility limitations. We have three year-round performance spaces (MB1, MB3, MB4).
