THE WORKSHOP
People are wild, weird, and endlessly justified in the ways they navigate the world. And guess what....you’re people too!
In this workshop, we’ll focus on bringing a kernel of our own humanity into our improv. Instead of forcing the funny, we’ll explore the grounded and emotionally honest choices that make our scenes compelling to watch, whether they're funny or not.
Prerequisites: you should already have basic improv training before attending this class
About the leader: Trumane Alston is a Brooklyn native who spent half his 20s performing improv and sketch at UCB, the Magnet, and countless bars and basements across New York City. He spent the other half of his 20s in Chicago improvising regularly at The Saturday Show at Logan Square Improv and Baby Wants Candy.
He studied acting at Black Box Acting and starred in the Goodman Theatre's 2025 production of Fat Ham. (He won't stop talking about it!) You can currently catch him playing himself as one half of the aptly named duo Chris Gethard and Trumane Alston.

Monkey Barrel Comedy is situated in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. Our rooms are located on opposite sides of the street at the top end of Blair Street, just off the Royal Mile. Our venues can be easily accessed by bus or taxi from South Bridge or by foot from the Cowgate or the High Street.
